Watch our placement tutorial
Before you create your EX.CO experience, the first thing you’ll be asked to do is to decide on a placement for it. A placement is the position on a web page that the experience will be situated. This can either be between articles “in page”, or layered on top of the page’s existing content; “over page”.
If this is your first experience, naturally you’ll want to create a new placement. Check the ‘create new’ option and enter a unique placement name. This can be anything you like, but ensure it makes sense for anyone else who may need to refer to this later. ‘Your Company Name’ for example, or ‘Your Brand Identifier’ etc.
For any secondary experiences, simply check ‘Add to existing placement’, and select your choice from the drop down menu. It's important to note that if you have more than one experience in each placement, these will rotate evenly on your webpage when they are launched.
Click continue in the bottom right corner, and you can start creating your experience. Once it’s ready to launch, you must perform a one-time embed of our Placement Tag, which essentially creates a ‘container’ on your website for the experiences you’ll create. See embedding for more information.
Settings
In this section of the placement screen you’ll decide where and how your experience will be situated on the page.
Type
“Over page” means that your experience can be layered on top of your regular web content, in a place of your choosing.
“In-page” provides the option to embed your experience anywhere within your website, blogs, or dedicated landing pages, etc.
Position
This refers to the position on screen where an “over page” experience will be shown. Bottom-right is our suggested default position, but select an option that works best, avoiding any other on-screen bots, pop-ups or important information.
Size
Here, you are able to decide how your experience will be displayed. If you’re unsure of what to choose, use the default settings, these can always be changed later.
More advanced users can set a width and choose whether it will be an exact pixel size (px) or a percentage of the screen (%). You can define this for both desktop and mobile devices. The height will be calculated automatically.
Advanced Settings
If the default screen positioning doesn’t suit your website, you’re able to define a margin in pixel sizes. Again, this can be set differently for desktop and mobile devices. Increasing the margins will move the experience further into the page from the edge.
z-index defines the order of overlapping HTML elements on a page. Elements with a higher index will be placed on top of elements with a lower index. So consider any other overlaid items or pop-ups you may have, and if you want your ex.co experience to take precedence, ensure this number is higher than those set for the other elements.
Once you’re happy with your settings, ensure that the Placement is enabled using the toggle switch, and click Save in the top right corner of the screen.
Content
This section of the screen will display all of the experiences you’ve created within this placement. The status toggle is the switch for making an experience appear on your website. If this is toggled to off, the experience will not be served to visitors, so is considered inactive.
